download from SD card?

I really like the camera, and the app, and cloud recording works very well. But I'm a little mystified about the SD card. What can you DO with what you've recorded on the SD card, besides play it back on your device? I'm surprised that, as far as I can understand, you can't download anything from the SD card, like you can with cloud videos. Is that really true? I guess I can just capture video as I play it back on my device, but that seems a little awkward. Are the 12 second "event" captures you get from ONLY available on cloud storage in the Library?
