night vision options in S20?
AnsweredThere are several "Night vision" options in the S20C controller. The descriptions are confusing. "IR Night Vision", "Intelligent Night Vision", and "Color Night Vision". I gather that "Color Night Vision" turns on a visible light to see the image in color when motion is detected. I I gather that "IR Night Vision" turns on an IR light to see a B&W IR image when motion is detected. Is that correct? But what's "Intelligent"?

Thank you for your question. Your observations about the S20C camera's night vision functions are very sharp, and I'm happy to explain these modes in detail for you.
Your understanding is largely correct, and the "Intelligent Night Vision" mode is an automatic one that combines the advantages of the other two.
Here is a clear breakdown of the differences between the three modes:
1. IR Night Vision
* How it works: Activates IR LEDs to capture light.
* Image Effect: Black & White.
* Use Case: Completely dark environments. The IR light is invisible to the human eye and causes no light pollution[citation:2].
2. Color Night Vision
* How it works: Triggers the device's built-in spotlight to provide illumination.
* Image Effect: Full Color.
* Use Case: When you need to see fine details at night, such as colors or clothing. This mode emits visible light and may also serve as an active deterrent[citation:2].
3. Intelligent Night Vision
* How it works: This is an automatic hybrid mode. It defaults to "IR Night Vision" to keep the image black & white and save power.
* Trigger Condition: When the camera's built-in sensors detect movement of a person or object, it will automatically turn on the spotlight and instantly switch to "Color Night Vision" mode to record the event.
* Advantage: It ensures low power consumption while idle and captures critical color forensic evidence when it matters most.
Summary and Recommendations:
* For stable operation without disturbing neighbors, choose IR Night Vision.
* For a consistently colorful image, choose Color Night Vision (note the light may remain on or activate very frequently).
* For efficient, action-triggered monitoring, Intelligent Night Vision is the most recommended option.
I hope this explanation helps you get the most out of your device. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.0 -

Thank you. That's informative. But I just tried using "Intelligent Night Vision" last night and, when motion was detected, I just got a B&W infrared image. The spotlight never turned on.
I''m not clear about the difference between "Color Night Vision" and "Intelligent Night Vision". In both cases, the spotlight is supposed to be turned on when motion is detected. Is that the case? Or is it that "Color Night Vision" ALWAYS has the spotlight turned on, whether or not motion is detected? I should add that power saving isn't an issue, if the device is plugged in.
